The 2009/10 Sprintcar season has officially come to an end for the Queensland based Mitchell Motorsports Team after wrapping up their racing program at the 2010 Australian Sprintcar Championship at Darwin’s Northline Speedway. Unfortunately the weekend didn’t go to plan with Team Driver Ricky Mitchell involved in an early race incident during the 15 lap B-Main on the Sunday night resulting the in the Eagle Ignition Leads finishing the year on the infield.

“To finish the Australian Championship on the infield was very disappointing but it would have been extremely tough to make the A from where we were starting. When Brooke (Tatnell) is the final transfer into a final you know it is a tough field” added Team Driver Ricky Mitchell.

“Overall the Title weekend was a great experience for me and the entire team. The Northline Speedway was a fantastic venue, the natural amphitheatre reminded me a lot of Murray Bridge. It was just a shame we were chasing our tail all weekend with the car set up. The car was loose all weekend and I like a tight race car. We finally got it pretty good in our final heat on Sunday and I really think the car would have been good in the B-main but we never got to find out”.

“Before I forget I really must congratulate James (McFadden) on winning the Australian Championship, he drove really well all weekend’.

With the season now officially over Ricky was able to reflect back on his season and overall he was pretty happy with the way the Team moved forward this year. “Other than the last three shows which resulted in three DNF’s I think we have really moved forward this year. The crew did a fantastic job, Dad gave me everything I needed to race near the front, and as a driver I felt more relaxed which really helped me behind the wheel. Although we haven’t really spoken about next year I am really looking forward to having another good year and I am really hoping that we can get down to Warrnambool to contest next years Australian Title” he added with enthusiasm.
