Sunday June 14, 2009.
Last weekend (June Long Weekend) the 2008/09 season came to an end for the Eagle Ignition Leads / Mitchell Motorsport Team and its driver Ricky Mitchell at the 2009 Queensland Sprintcar Title at Maryborough. After just missing the preliminary A-main on night 1 Ricky bounced back to qualify for the Championship decider on Sunday only to have his race cut short after he was caught out by the cushion that had developed on the back straight while running inside the top ten.

Last Saturday night Queenslander Ricky Mitchell enjoyed yet another reasonable outing at the Brisbane International Speedway during the Grand Final of the Comp Cams Sprintcar Series although it should have been even better than the final result suggested. After starting from the third row in the final he was involved in an incident with New South Welshman David Doherty resulting in Ricky being sent to the rear of the field with only a handful of laps remaining.

Ricky Mitchell’s recent string of top ten performances should have been extended last Saturday night during round 11 of the Comp Cams Series at the Brisbane International Speedway but instead it ended on the infield after a final lap incident. After making his way up to a creditable eighth position, after starting from position fourteen, a last lap incident involving Peter Lack and Terry Bracken left Ricky with nowhere to go and as a result he collided heavily with Bracken, who had stopped directly in front of the #19 Eagle Ignition Leads Cheetah.

The Mitchell Motorsport Team rolled out their #Q19 Eagle Silicone Ignition Leads Cheetah for the most recent round of the Comp Cams Series (Round 10) at the Brisbane International Speedway last Saturday Night with team driver Ricky Mitchell recording another strong result finishing inside the top ten. After sitting out the Easter weekend Ricky was pretty pleased with the outcome considering he hadn’t driven since late March. “To finish eighth was reasonable. I was a little conservative in the A-main but all in all it was a good night” added Ricky.

Although it was now over a week ago the Queensland based Mitchell Motorsport Team would like to inform their fans and sponsors about their recent trip to Sydney for the Grand Final of the 2008/09 Parramatta City Raceway Track Championship. Unfortunately their visit to Parramatta didn’t really go to plan as they failed to transfer out of the B-Main. The evening actually started off extremely well as the #19 Eagle Silicone Leads Cheetah stopped the clock with the fourth fastest time in hot laps but a bad draw in time trials put Ricky on the back foot for the rest of the night.

After being unable to compete the week prior after the disappointing rain out at Parramatta the Mitchell Motorsport Team was back in action last Saturday night as Ricky contested the Queensland Club Show at Maryborough. Despite the fact that Ricky had never even seen the race track prior to last weekend he was relatively confident going into the night and after a tough start to the evening he was able to salvage a top 10 result in the 30 lap feature after transferring from the b-main.

After an absence of almost 10 months Queenslander Ricky Mitchell made a successful to return to racing last Saturday night as he recorded an impressive top five result during round 7 of the Comp Cams Sprintcar Series at the Brisbane International Speedway. After starting from the third row in the A-main Ricky seemed to revel in the slick track conditions making his way inside the top four mid way through the event before eventually finishing where he started in position five.

Ricky Mitchell will return to the drivers seat this Saturday night (February 28) during round 7 of the Comp Cams Sprintcar Series at the Brisbane International Speedway. Over the past few months Ricky, and Team Owner Peter Mitchell, have been extremely busy with work commitments and as a result the #19 Eagle Ignition Leads Cheetah hasn’t been seen in action at all this season. But despite the lack of recent seat time the team is determined to make up for lost time and they believe that they can be competitive straight out of the box this weekend as they take on the best domestic racers Queensland has to offer.

This Saturday night Ricky Mitchell will represent Queensland with pride as he takes on the “Parramatta Posse” in his #19 Eagle Silicone Ignition Leads Cheetah as he contests the 51st running of the New South Wales Sprintcar Championship. After a competitive run last weekend at Round 10 of the Comp Cams Series at Brisbane Team Owner Peter Mitchell is fairly confident of strong performance tomorrow night in what will be the Team’s third outing at the Sydney venue this season.

Queenslander Ricky Mitchell returned to the Parramatta City Raceway for the first time since the Australian Championship in February last Saturday night and at the completion of the evening he was pretty satisfied with his efforts. “I felt really strong for all 30 laps. I think we had a better car than our 15th place shows but just to make it straight into the A-main at any Parramatta show is a great achievement. The track was slick on the bottom during the feature with a huge cushion on top so it really suited me” added Ricky following the event.
